Mai’s Underwater Journey is a new educational programme for pre-school groups. On 23 January 2018, S.E.A. Aquarium hosted the first programme preview for 50 educators from more than 40 pre-schools.
The educators were taken on a facilitated tour around the aquarium in groups of 15-20. Led by our highly trained educational facilitators and Mai the Manta Ray, the educators experienced what it is like for their students to undergo the 60-90 minute programme.
Mai’s Underwater Journey integrates purposeful play and quality interactions. The educators experienced this first-hand at the various learning stations where students will learn about different animals using colorful placards with messages. For example, the educators met Norman the Nurse Shark at the Shark Seas Habitat where the education facilitators shared with them about shark finning and its implications.
The educators were shown a sample of the craft booklet (below) and badge which will be given to all participating pre-schoolers to bring home.
At the end of the preview, the educators each received a package containing details of the programme. Members of the Education team were also present to answer any concerns the educators had. Upon exiting the aquarium, they were also shown the location of the bus bay, as well as the gathering spot where our education facilitators will meet the students on the day of their programme.
