Educator Preview: new educational programmes at Maritime Experiential Museum

With 15 thematic galleries, state-of-the-art visual projections, multimedia shows, interactive hands-on exhibits and olfactory experiences, the newly renovated Maritime Experiential Museum is a great place for students to explore the glorious history of the Maritime Silk Route.

Journey in the tailwinds of great explorers Zheng He, Marco Polo, Sang Nila Utama and Ibn Battuta.
Recreation of the port of Oman.
Learn about the history of coin production.
Discover a treasure trove of navigation tools, such as this Astrolabe which was used to measure time, the movement of stars, geographical locations and vertical angles.
The Jewel of Muscat which was constructed the traditional way without nails or screws. It made a tumultuous 138-day voyage from Oman to Singapore in 2010 using ancient navigational methods with a crew of 15.

With the reopening of the Maritime Experiential Museum, we are rolling out new educational programmes that complement the Ministry of Education’s Social Studies (Primary) syllabus and History syllabus. Students will gain a better appreciation of social, historical and cultural issues that they are inquiring into from an authentic Field-based Learning experience at the museum.
