Sam the Shark, second mascot for S.E.A. Aquarium

If you have visited S.E.A. Aquarium in the past few months, you would probably have met one of our newest residents who usually makes his appearance at Ocean Dome.

Meet Sam the shark. At 1.85m long, our new mascot has been bringing much joy and delight to visitors young and old. Ever friendly and bubbly, Sam very kindly took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to share with us more about himself.

What kind of shark are you?
I am a Scalloped Hammerhead Shark. See that scalloped front edge of my cephalophoil (‘hammer head’)? That’s why we’re called Scalloped Hammerheads.

When did you first arrive at S.E.A. Aquarium?
9 August 2017, which happens to be Singapore’s National Day!

Which is your favourite part of the aquarium?
I love the Open Ocean Habitat because I can see and play with all my friends.

What’s your favourite food?
I am a carnivore so I love my protein. Fish and squid always make my day 🙂

How long do you take to “freshen up” before meeting guests?
About 40 minutes to an hour. I always want to look my very best.

BFF: Mai and Sam

Who’s your best friend in the aquarium?
Mai the Manta Ray!

Did Mai give you any tips on guest interaction?
Oh she sure did! Like how we should always welcome guests with open arms and give our widest smile.

We absolutely adore your Halloween outfit! Could you see well with just one eye?
Well yes! My eyes are located at the side of my head which gives me a 360 degree view. So even with one eye covered up, I can still see very well.

What is your favourite hobby?
Taking photos with guests of course. It makes me really happy to see them smile.

Do you prefer hugs or tummy rubs?
Tummy rubs!

Sam enjoying a hug and tummy rub from a young fan.

Tell us a secret about yourself.
Well if I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore 🙂

Come meet Sam the shark at the Ocean Dome at 2.45pm and 3.45pm daily (alternate weeks).
