Shark Tour: enter restricted zones and learn from shark experts

Explore the Secret World of Sharks is happening right now at S.E.A. Aquarium.

From 2 – 10 September 2017, you’ll get to learn everything about sharks through a variety of activities, with the highlight being Shark Tour. This 45-minute guided tour will take you to three of our biggest habitats, as well as back-of-house area which is usually out of bounds to the general public.

As one of the aquarists conducting this tour, I am going to share with you snippets of the tour that makes it educational and exciting.

1. Male or female? Pregnant or not?
How do you differentiate males from females? How can you tell if a shark is pregnant just by looking? These are some of our “trade secrets” which we will reveal during the tour.
Amazing facts about S.E.A. Aquarium

2. That’s our baby
S.E.A. Aquarium’s world-class husbandry practices have resulted in our successful breeding programme which includes sharks. Not only will you get to see some of the sharks that were born and bred in our aquarium, we will also share with you how it was like caring for both mum and pup.

3. Shark’s menu
What do we feed the sharks with in our aquarium? How much do they eat? Do all sharks eat the same food?

Find out all these and more as we take you to the Food Preparation Kitchen where we aquarists prepare some 450kg of fish feed daily for all our marine inhabitants. (PS: the kitchen may be a little chilly for kids so bring along a light jacket if necessary)

4. Top of the world
By joining the Shark Tour, you’ll also get to visit another restricted area: the top deck of our Open Ocean Habitat! You’ll get to witness just how expansive this habitat is, and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the fishes below. Tip: look out for Manta Rays gliding past just below the water surface!

5. Untold stories
My fellow aquarists and I take care of sharks (and other animals) in S.E.A. Aquarium. Which means we have plenty of true stories to share with you, such as our first time diving with sharks and fascinating stories about individual animals. The kind of stuff you won’t find on Google search.
