Voyages of Exploration: learn History and Social Studies in an engaging, hands-on setting

Why learn about History and Social Studies in a classroom when you can do so in a more engaging manner at the newly revamped Maritime Experiential Museum?

Join us in Voyages of Exploration, a new educational programme where students get to embark on a 90min guided tour of the Maritime Experiential Museum.

Examine the projections and models of the Chinese, Borobudur and Javanese trading ships of the era, in detailed 360-degree views, and learn a wealth of fascinating information about their makings.
Learn navigation skills like a sailor in training. Read nautical charts, navigate with a mariner’s compass, study the art of knot tying and more at our collection of interactive exhibits.
Explore maritime trade and heritage in a fun and engaging manner.
Up-close with the Jewel of Muscat – the Arab dhow that sailed from Oman to Singapore in 68 days.
Along the way, students will be tasked to complete an activity booklet that complements their learning journey. Three different activity booklets have been designed to cater to three different learning levels – Primary 4, Primary 5 and lower secondary.

The upper primary activity booklets follow the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) Social Studies syllabus while the activity booklet for lower secondary follows the MOE’s History syllabus:

Primary 4
Discover more about the lives of early explorers, learning about their values, how they navigated the seas and the types of maritime goods traded

Primary 5
Explore key maritime inventions and events, as well as the lifestyle of people living in ancient China and India.

Lower Secondary
Empower their skills in source-based analysis, which will help them to extract relevant information that will aid them in their understanding of ancient maritime trade and Singapore’s rich maritime history.
