Come and celebrate World Oceans Day at S.E.A. Aquarium from 6 to 8 June 2015!
Everybody needs a healthy ocean. We are all connected through important resources, such as the food we eat, the air we breathe and the climate we are exposed to.
But the ocean is suffering from various threats, which affect its health and in turn its productivity. If we all make small changes, then together we can have a huge impact and help to protect this resourceful environment.
What is World Oceans Day?
Held every 8 June, World Oceans Day is the United Nations-recognised day of ocean celebration and action. People all over our blue planet organise celebrations to support actions taken to protect the ocean.
Since 2002, World Oceans Day events have been celebrated worldwide with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organisations, universities, schools, and businesses. Each year an increasing number of people mark June 8th as an opportunity to celebrate our world ocean and highlight our personal connection to the sea.
This year, the S.E.A. Aquarium has become an official supporting partner of the World Oceans Day event.
How is S.E.A. Aquarium celebrating World Oceans Day?
The S.E.A. Aquarium is joining worldwide celebrations to help raise awareness on issues affecting the health of the ocean.
This year at S.E.A. Aquarium, we are focusing on three main threats to the ocean:
- climate change
We have planned fun and interactive activities for all, such as our Blue Planet activity trail and Ocean Sole art pieces.
Our team will be delivering exciting Stories from the S.E.A. Aquarium.
Students from Republic Polytechnic will be on hand to teach visitors about local Horseshoe crab conservation actions.
Temasek Polytechnic students will be talking about Mud crab conservation actions.
Our adorable Manta Ray mascot along with his friends the Seadragon mascots will be making appearances at the Aquarium. Snap pictures with them before they swim back.
Stories from the S.E.A. Aquarium
Every day, our dedicated teams are working hard to raise awareness for global issues facing marine life. To help explain more about their commitment our Aquarist, Dive and Education teams will be delivering a series of fun presentations.
Diving with Sharks
Take this opportunity to quiz the dive team on what it is really like to dive with sharks! Find out how they dive for up to 5 hours per day surrounded by over 100 sharks at once. Learn how these predators hunt for food and use their seemingly powerful jaws to capture prey- not divers!
Saving Manta Rays
Join our Aquarist team as they explain more about our mesmerising Manta rays and what it takes to look after them. Find out about our Manta ray conservation project and how S.E.A. Aquarium is working with other organisations to help protect them in the ocean.
S.E.A. Aquarium Babies
Ever wondered what it is like to care for hundreds of babies, from sea jellies to sharks? Come and learn more about our S.E.A. Aquarium babies directly from our Aquarist team. Did you know some sharks lay eggs? We can prove it- our aquarists will bring some to show you!
