Record 888kg of trash collected at annual beach cleanup

On 25 June 2016, 65 Team Members of Resorts World Sentosa and their families participated in the annual beach cleanup at Tanah Merah Beach Site 7. Jointly organised by S.E.A. Aquarium and RWS Cares, this was the finale of the aquarium’s World Oceans Day celebration which aims to inspire ocean protection and raise awareness on the threats facing the oceans.

Volunteers were shocked by the sheer amount of trash washed ashore, and how much more remained in the ocean. Among the things they picked up were a trash bag completely covered in crude oil. It took 3 people to lift and dispose of it. One team even found a huge wax figure similar to those seen in wax museums.

This was our fifth and most successful beach cleanup to date, with more than 888kg of trash removed.
