Picking the perfect Dolphin Island programme for children

Few things are as magical as spotting a double rainbow. Swimming with dolphins is one of them. Unfortunately, unlike countries like Hawaii or Australia, dolphins aren’t native to the waters of Singapore (oops! we have been alerted that dolphins* have occasionally been spotted off the coast of Singapore) we do not have dolphin tours that take us out to sea to watch and swim with them, and not all of us have the privilege to travel overseas to do that. The next best alternative? Dolphin interaction programmes at Dolphin Island.

Here’s the low down on what’s available, and which might better suit your mini mes.

* We did some digging and found that there may be at least four types of native dolphins in Singapore waters, namely the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin (Sousa chinensis), Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncates), Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops aduncus), and Irrawaddy Dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris).
