RWS Kids Quest is a new programme introduced in 2015 that combines the best educational programmes at Universal Studios Singapore (USS), S.E.A. Aquarium and Dolphin Island in a 3-day camp for school children.
Open to children 8 to 12 years old, participants will go on a Scavenger Hunt at USS, learn what an Aquarist do at S.E.A. Aquarium and learn how to be a dolphin trainer at Dolphin Island. While RWS Kids Quest takes place over three days, participants will not be staying overnight.
Curious what’s in store for kids in this programme? We followed some kids on the quest and here are six things we learnt they will be doing.
1. Participate in Scavenger Hunt at USS.
The Scavenger Hunt Team-Building Programme at USS combines the excitement of a traditional scavenger hunt with a theme park experience.
Participants will work as a team to solve a quiz, which involves puns, play on words and simple logic. The clues refer to a specific attraction, location or icon at Universal Studios Singapore, where the answer can be found.
Even for school children, it’s never too early to learn team-building skills.
Participating in the Scavenger Hunt is a fun way for kids to learn about teamwork, leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills as they will have to work with others to solve a quiz.
Plus: During the Hunt, they will also get express access to the rides and a private Meet-and-Greet session with characters.
2. Learn how to feed 100,000 marine creatures at S.E.A. Aquarium
At S.E.A. Aquarium, the children will learn the food preparation process for the marine animals. If the kids are curious, they can help with preparation. The squeamish ones can just observe.
They also will get back-of-house access to witness the unique way of manta rays at Open Ocean Habitat and try their hands at feeding the rays at Ray Bay. This segment will be more hands-on as they get to actually do the feeding.
3. Learn the lifecycle and breeding of sea jellies.
The kids will get special access to the sea jelly breeding zone at S.E.A. Aquarium. Here, they will learn how sea jellies at the Aquarium are bred. There’s also a chance for participants to help transfer the baby sea jellies to another tank to keep them healthy.
4. Get up-close with the dolphins
At Dolphin Island, the kids will be interacting with dolphins in theTrainer for a Day programme. They will learn how the dolphin trainers communicate with dolphins and try their hands at it.
5. Kayak with dolphins at Dolphin Island
The kids will go on a transparent canoe with a dolphin trainer to the centre of the dolphin lagoon. Here, they will get a view from the top into the lagoon to see how the dolphins move and interact underwater.
6. Meet the veterinarians
For kids who are interested in veterinary, here’s a chance to meet the vets. They will see the tools used to keep track of the dolphins’ health and the lab where the vets test samples to ensure that our dolphins are healthy.
